If you are missing a significant number of teeth, bridges and crowns may not be your best option. Instead, you will want to consider dentures instead. They serve as replacements for missing teeth and can be removed as desired.
At Allen G Woods DMD Dental, we can place both full and partial dentures depending on your needs. Denture repairs and relines are also available.
Call (570) 288-6561 to schedule a free consultation and see if dentures are right for you. We use the latest in digital X-ray technology to get the best possible look at your teeth.
Dentures have a flesh-colored base that is placed over the gums. At first, you may find dentures strange or uncomfortable but will get used to them in time. Some people feel it is too loose while others find it too bulky. But most of the time, patients adapt to dentures. You'll feel normal eating and speaking as the dentures feel more like natural teeth over time.
At Allen G Woods DMD Dental, we'll prepare your mouth for dentures and find the right ones to suit your smile. Even though dentures are not "real" teeth, they still need to be cared for.
Your dentures should be brushed to remove plaque and food particles. Store them in room-temperature water or a denture-cleaning solution. Hot water is not recommended as it can harm dentures. They are delicate items that should be handled with care.
Dentures may need to be adjusted over time, which can easily be done at Allen G Woods DMD Dental. If your dentures are uncomfortable or loose, we can adjust them as necessary. Call to schedule your appointment. Most major insurance is accepted.
There are three main types of dentures available:
Conventional Full Dentures
Before getting dentures, most patients need their remaining teeth removed. It will take some time for the gums to heal, which could be up to a few months. You won't be fitting for your conventional full dentures until the healing process is complete, which means you could wait several months without teeth.
Immediate Full Dentures
If you can't wait months for your dentures, immediate full dentures are possible. The dentures are fitted to your mouth prior to tooth removal. Upon removal, the dentures can be immediately placed and you won't be without teeth for any time.
Follow-up visits are important because your jawbone will shift slightly as your mouth heals. Therefore, your dentures will likely need adjusting and tightening during this initial time period.
Partial Dentures
If some of your teeth can be salvaged, partial dentures may be right for you. They fill in the gaps like a bridge but are not permanently affixed to the mouth.
